Watched Beginners last week, took a while to stop seeing young Obi Wan Kenobi and see Ewan McGregor as a graphic designer.
Especially loved the way he talks to his dad’s dog, Arthur. I always imagine being in dialogue with my dog – but Arthur’s dialogue is much more dramatic than anything I could imagine my dog to say.
The movie has quite an indie feel to it. The moral of the story is to take your chances, and not give up on happiness. I think.
Anna: You look so unhappy.
Oliver: Well are you happy? Here?
Anna: Maybe I’m not perfect at it. I don’t really know what I’m doing. But I wanna be here.
Hal: Well, let’s say that since you were little, you always dreamed of getting a lion. And you wait, and you wait, and you wait, and you wait but the lion doesn’t come. And along comes a giraffe. You can be alone, or you can be with the giraffe.
Oliver: I’d wait for the lion.
Hal: That’s why I worry about you.
Oliver: What happens now?
Anna: I don’t know.
Oliver: How does that work?
They look at each other, they smile.
